INTRODUCTION
Muktsar as a district drawn up on
the Map of Punjab on 7,November,1995. Muktsar district comprises
three Tehsils namely Muktsar, Malout & Gidderbaha and Four
blocks namely Muktsar, Malout, Kot Bhai & Lambi. All though
Muktsar is an Industrial backward but it has some popular
industrial centres which are Known for their monopolies in their
field like Gidderbaha is famous for SNUFF, Malout is famous for
the mfg.of all type
of Agriculture Implements. Similary Muktsar is known for
‘MUKTSARI JUTTI’ in India. Besides these, there are industrial
units like as Brick Kiln, Cotton Ginning, Cotton Yarn, Rice
Milling, Rice Bran Oil, Musted Oil, Cattle Feed, Poultries
Farms, Washing Soap, RCC Pipes, Pharmaceuticals, Processing of
Tea, Wooden & Steel Furniture and all type of Repair & Service
etc.
Following Schemes are implementing at district level for the
welfare of public:-
I)
Prime
Minister Rozgar Yojna:-
(a)
This is a centrally
sponsored scheme for educated un-employed youths to create self
employment. The eligibility for this, applicant should be
between 18-35 Years and should be minimum Middle Pass. However
SC, ST & Women, the upper age limit between 18-45 yrs.
(b)
In this Scheme the cases of
the applicants are sponsored to Banks after being Interview by
the constituted TASK FORCE COMMITTEE including LDM &
Distt.Coordinators of the banks.
(c)
As the banks sanctioned
these cases, District Industries Centre arranged the Training
Programmee for these sanctioned cases by banks.
(d)
After Training, banks
disburse these trained cases.
II)
Provisional Registration
of SSI Unit
After receiving the complete prescribed application,
registration issued to the Entrepreneur on same day.
III)
Permanent Registration of
SSI Unit
After receipt the complete application, registration certificate
issued within 30 days from the receipt of application.
IV)
Registration of Societies
under Society Act-1860
After receipt the complete
application, certificate issued under society Act-1860.
Department of Hoticulture
Deptt.
of Horticulture Punjab came into existence in years 1979-80
after separation from agriculture deptt.. Its main objective is
to encourage cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flowers. At
present the total area under fruit plants is 47087 hec.in Punjab
state. Muktsar was declare district in 1995. In this district
4168 hec. area is under
fruit cultivation out of which 2793 hec. area is under Kinnow
orchards. The total production of fruits in this district is
60822 metric ton. In the year 2004-05 -
360 hec. area is brought under new orchards.

In
the present Scenario of agriculture the main objective of this
department is to improve economic condition of farmers by
diversification through Horticulture. This department is running
different schemes of Punjab government and Centre government as
given below:-
1.
Technical guidance
:- This Deptt. provides technical Know How about the cultivation
of Horticulture crops(fruits, vegetables, flowers and
mushrooms). Technical staff of the Deptt. provides technical
knowledge to the farmers from research labs to the field level.
Department conduct district level, village level farmer camps
tours, seminars and
shows.
2.
Financial Assistance:-
This deptt. gives financial assistance for demonstration plots
of vegetables Rs. 1000 per plot. To improve the quality of
fruits and vegetables thrust points are applied in
the farmer fields with the insistence of Rs. 500 for thrust
point.
Some citrus orchards are effected from fungal disease
called Phytopathora. For its treatment fungicide ridomil is very
costly so department gives financial assistance of Rs. 5000 Per
hec. to the farmers.
3.
Good quality seeds and
plants:-
Deptt. Provides good quality of seasonal vegetables seeds (
potato, Okra, Squash, Gourd, Bitter Gourd, etc) to the farmers
at reasonable rates. These seeds are produced at the departments
own farms situated at different districts in Punjab. Mushroom/Dhingri
seed is also provided at reasonable rates. A good quality true
to type plants of different fruits like Kinnow, Guava, Ber, are
available to the farmers in
the planting season from department nurseries and registered
private nurseries.
4.
Supply
of plastic Crates:-
For the marketing of fruits and vegetables in the
far and away
markets, deptt. give plastic crates to the farmers @ of 50%
subsidy time to time as availability of budget
from government .
5.
Improvement in quality of fruits:-
To improve the quality of grapes new technology is imported from
Iserial. With the application of this technology a good quality
of grapes can be produced with big size and high TSS. Deptt.
give financial assistances of Rs. 2800 per acre every year.
6.
Loans
:- Deptt.
Helps farmers to provide them loans from various banks for
planting of new orchards of grapes, Kinnow and Mushroom etc.
